Food on board the Silver Cloud

Somewhere in the middle of Antarctic Sound...hitting the gas to avoid possible nasty weather on the way back through the Drake Passage. Only 3 m waves as opposed to 10m! 

Tonight's supper I tried tempura soft shell crab for first time. It was OK. And Dover Sole Mueniere...no doubt misspelled that. I did the deboning myself! 😁

Technically not onboard yet....meal on chartered flight from Santiago to Puerto Williams. A Chilean stew. It wasn't bad but definitely different.

Last day at sea before hitting the Drake Passage again

Not much happening on final day at sea. The have some lectures but I think I'll hang out in the Panorama Lounge ...Stern. it has become my fav place on the ship. Paul makes a mean cappuccino with extra shot. The sun actually set and it was pitch black. The sunrise was beautiful but of course I was too busy looking to take a picture. First true sunrise in 12 days! So heading north we get the Drake "shake." Captain announced swells should improve around 2300. Hope so cuz I gotta pack! Service is decidedly different on way back. Not sure if this is the norm or maybe our area's regular staff are doing more (room service, equipment delivery, laundry, etc) because the sea is so rough.   Getting rough out in the DP

Too many icebergs for landing, Neko Harbour

My how fast things change! Weather is not cooperating for today's continental landing in Neko Harbor. Too much wind and icebergs. I was not planning to attempt anyway as the description of the landing site included the words "walk fast" and "tsunami." Apparently the best place to land is near a small glacier. The tsunami part comes in if it decides to calve at the moment a boat or people are around. So here are a couple of pics while I wait for Vinay to bring me my breakfast and tea.😁

Hop On Hop Off bus tour of Santiago before heading home

Wordy...skip if you don't have time...just getting thoughts down...oh look...more words.... Finished the 2.5 hour tour of Santiago. Fortunately, there were headphones that you can magically plug into the wall of said bus and get the info about touristy things around you...in English....well except for a short part in the middle that I swear was Russian. Thoughts on Santiago...big, historic, youthful, overtaken by US brands. I bet the Chileans never had heart disease until McDs came knocking. It's bustling but traffic is not frenetic like many cities I've visited. Rarely a horn...only counted 3...turn signals used, people let others merge ahead of them, no speeding, oh...they actually STOP when people are crossing in the crosswalk. There's some beautiful graffiti on buildings and palm trees... evidence of political strife, homelessness, and a large military presence strolling every other block. A fascinating city that I hope to return to and experience it properly v...
