Yankee Harbour

Image
We are in Yankee Harbor and folks are heading in for landing and kayaking. Half Moon Island. Tiny red specs are SilverSeas passengers in their signature red parkas. Old outpost. There are several locations with outposts.  They are supplied with blankets, canned food, and other emergency supplies to last months should someone get lost.

Weather changes quickly! Bransfield Island

Well this landing changed quickly. Some groups got over but they canceled rest because of storm quickly rolling in. So stripping off layers and going for Tea Time. Perhaps today will be Darjeeling Summertime?

Whales in Neko Harbour

Neko Harbor was canceled because of weather and ice. While making our short way to Cuverville Island 2 whales were spotted. Ship stopped and everyone rushed to deck 5 "Titanic" area of the bow. I stayed "home" and got this little 2 min show . Update: There were 3 adults and baby. Still not sure what species but probably Humpback or Orca. The Finn and Minke do not breech like that...according to our experts on ship.

Too many icebergs for landing, Neko Harbour

My how fast things change! Weather is not cooperating for today's continental landing in Neko Harbor. Too much wind and icebergs. I was not planning to attempt anyway as the description of the landing site included the words "walk fast" and "tsunami." Apparently the best place to land is near a small glacier. The tsunami part comes in if it decides to calve at the moment a boat or people are around. So here are a couple of pics while I wait for Vinay to bring me my breakfast and tea.😁

Crossed the Antarctic Circle

Port Lockroy at the post office

Hello my friends! Just returned from THE most harrowing shopping trip of my life! Again they said easy landing...this time it took 4 men and 3 women to get me up there. Is it any wonder I don't trust people!!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣  Expedition crew was outstanding again! Postcards are written and stamped. The 4 ladies that take care of Port Lockroy this summer will hand cancel them. This is a UK base so they will travel via other ships to the Falklands, to UK (where there is a postal strike at the moment), and on to your mailbox. This time they said 4 to 6 weeks. Oh I also adopted a penguin...a Gentoo. This base is maintained by charity only. So I donated 10 Brit pounds in each of your names. Now I need a shower! The base museum map room and pics of people and Gentoo penguins that all live around the post office, shop, museum, and living quarters for caretakers. Map room at Port Lockroy Another cruise ship Raising the Zodiaks Guides heading inland to check for good places to land
