Hop On Hop Off bus tour of Santiago before heading home

Image
Wordy...skip if you don't have time...just getting thoughts down...oh look...more words.... Finished the 2.5 hour tour of Santiago. Fortunately, there were headphones that you can magically plug into the wall of said bus and get the info about touristy things around you...in English....well except for a short part in the middle that I swear was Russian. Thoughts on Santiago...big, historic, youthful, overtaken by US brands. I bet the Chileans never had heart disease until McDs came knocking. It's bustling but traffic is not frenetic like many cities I've visited. Rarely a horn...only counted 3...turn signals used, people let others merge ahead of them, no speeding, oh...they actually STOP when people are crossing in the crosswalk. There's some beautiful graffiti on buildings and palm trees... evidence of political strife, homelessness, and a large military presence strolling every other block. A fascinating city that I hope to return to and experience it properly v...

A Mall Stroll in Parque Arauco, Santiago, Chile

Ok doing the easy peasy tour of Santiago...Hop on hop off double decker bus including tickets for funicular and cable cars. Not sure I'll be hopping off but we'll see. Although...after seeing their mall food court might need to walk. See anything familiar? Parque Arauco Mall, Santiago, Chile

Lunch at Parque Arauco Mall

Wow...this is really close to the best salmon I've ever had. They even ask you how you want cooked! Medium rare, please, with butter caper sauce! And Iced tea with lime....my new favorite way to have iced tea.

Back in Santiago, Chile, for a night

Landed at Santiago and located my luggage. This is tough part...like at the beginning here the communication and complete lack of organization is absurd. Our group has to wait for bus to take us to Mandarin Oriental hotel. Walking behind the "Loud" family to which I have referred a few times. Well they are still talking. The daughters haven't stopped talking loudly since we got on the ship! They must exhausted...or at least their parents must be! View from the room and pic of tiramisu BEFORE eating it.😁

Back at Puerto Williams

We are anchored just off of Puerto Williams and will be here until the other ship gets out of our way...probably 10pm. The charter flight is landing. Those folks are the last to embark on that ship. Same thing will happen with Silver Cloud...we diembark by 8 am and they start loading the next group around 2pm. Incoming flight from Santiago Sailing past Cape Horn Our channel pilot is in that "fuzzy" tug. He will hop on at some point and steer the ship into dock. 3am finally docked at PW Saying Good bye to The Silver Cloud

Last day at sea before hitting the Drake Passage again

Not much happening on final day at sea. The have some lectures but I think I'll hang out in the Panorama Lounge ...Stern. it has become my fav place on the ship. Paul makes a mean cappuccino with extra shot. The sun actually set and it was pitch black. The sunrise was beautiful but of course I was too busy looking to take a picture. First true sunrise in 12 days! So heading north we get the Drake "shake." Captain announced swells should improve around 2300. Hope so cuz I gotta pack! Service is decidedly different on way back. Not sure if this is the norm or maybe our area's regular staff are doing more (room service, equipment delivery, laundry, etc) because the sea is so rough.   Getting rough out in the DP
